INTO THE NETTLE PATCH; PLANT LORE, FOLK RITUAL, AND THE LIMINAL
This theme is explored through illustration, paintings, and visual storytelling with crankie theatre, all aboard an old boat. From faery dwellings to evil curses, the flora that grows here harbours mythologies and wondrous traditions. at the edges, in hedgerows and along canals, hides an ancient magic......a powerful agency for the common folk, a remedy for life.
The venue, Lady Banbury, is an old Butty, both my home and my floating studio, also the inception for paintings, illustrations and storytelling. Aboard is their natural habitat, I like to exhibit here, where I live alongside my creations, and invite the public into this watery realm…..no stark white gallery walls here, more a ramshackle hodgepodge of folklore, fantasy, and canal life.
I hang paintings, curiosities and props to curate an experience based on my annual theme.
I have an art market aboard where I sell prints, stationery, books, zines, cards and curiosities, as well as original paintings
An intimate theatre space……but perfect for Crankie shows. I performed daily shows of this year’s tale ‘Feed the Echo’
