Penelope
Digital Painting
Inspired by Greek legend of the Goddess "Penelope" . the name is linked to the Greek word for "duck" (penelops). This connection stems from a legend where a baby is thrown into the sea and saved by ducks, leading her father to name her Penelope after the birds. This association, combined with the goddess's connection to weaving and spring, has led to her being referred to as a "duck goddess" or
‘Goddess of Spring’ as ducks are associated with fertility, the arrival of spring and new beginnings.
She is also known for her weaving skills and association with tapestries, which may symbolize the cycles of life and death. The red ribbon and the key are my visual metaphors to convey the unlocking of a new stage of life, emerging from the water wisened to the brutal human world, her mask playfully nods alliance to her true trustees, the faithful waterbirds.
